Location:
Washington Township, Ohio

Owner:
Ohio Department of Transportation District 8

Client:

Double Z Construction Company

Project Completion Date:

2008

Project Description:

For approximately four weeks, during the construction of this two-lane 3-sided precast concrete culvert bridge carrying SR 132 over a tributary of Todd Creek in Washington Township, Barr & Prevost’s Testing and Inspection Services Division maintained an on-site presence. Our responsibilities included overseeing excavation and embankment placement activities, evaluating moisture and compaction levels and testing concrete during the pour process. Approximately 1450 cubic yards of concrete were involved.

Shale and existing roadway materials excavated on site were compacted with a sheep-foot compactor before being utilized in embankment placement. The materials were inspected for stability and tested for degrees of moisture and compaction. As needed, the inspector regulated the addition of dry materials to bring the fill to optimum moisture levels. Moisture density samples were sent to the lab for testing. During the pour process, concrete cylinder samples were taken and transported to our testing laboratory for curing and break testing. Our inspectors produced written field reports for each site visit, logging the day’s activities and testing results.
