  • Soil classification
  • Atterberg limits (liquid & plastic limits)
  • Sieve Analysis
  • Moisture content
  • Density
  • Hydrometer analysis
  • Specific gravity
  • Consolidation
  • Compaction characteristics (Proctor)

The combination of a well-equipped laboratory facility and a deep roster of technical staff allows Barr & Prevost to manage the processing and testing of a large volume of soil and rock samples at any given time; thus, we can handle virtually any size testing assignment. Staff expertise and ongoing training in the use of gINT geotechnical data management software helps ensure that logs and test data are managed efficiently and that reports are standardized, and our secure login website allows clients access to test data at their convenience.

Barr & Prevost provides supporting services through our drilling division, whose technicians are experts in soil sampling and rock coring. And, in addition to laboratory testing, we offer in-field geotechnical testing and related construction inspection services. These services are performed during earthwork or excavation for the purpose of qualifying load-bearing surfaces or areas as being in conformance with project requirements and/or specifications and include:

  • Subgrade, subbase, and base course inspection
  • In-place density testing (Nuclear densometer)
  • Proof roll monitoring
  • Aggregate source evaluation/inspection
  • Geotextile membrane placement monitoring
  • Foundation/footing inspection
