FRA-270 Flyover Bridge Replacement – Concrete Testing

Location:
Columbus, Ohio

Owner:
Ohio Department of Transportation District 6

Client:
Shelly & Sands Construction Company

Project Completion Date:
2007

Project Description:
Barr & Prevost was contracted by Shelly & Sands Construction Company to perform QC/QA concrete testing on all concrete placed for the project. Anderson Concrete supplied the concrete.

A Quality Control Plan was developed by Barr & Prevost to ensure that all information and procedures of the ODOT 898 Specification were followed. The on-site testing included QC/QA testing by our certified ACI Engineering Technicians before any concrete could be placed. There were over 850 cubic yards of QSC1 and over 900 cubic yards of QCS2. This form of concrete testing provided information that allowed our technicians to approve or reject the quality of each load before it was placed based on pre-approved mix results.

Form removal and final break strength results were also reported to ODOT and the contractor via our secure client based web server. Because of this real time break result method the contractor was able to perform the work within the projected timeline.

The scope of this project and its time-sensitive nature dictated that our testing technicians work on rotational schedules during extended pours.  Over the course of one three-day pour, our technicians were constantly on site in shifts throughout the entire period.
