Environmental Drilling

Barr & Prevost provides environmental drilling services used to determine the existence of contamination in soil and groundwater. Obtaining discrete, undisturbed subsurface soil and water samples is key to evaluating and remediating contamination. The use of direct push (probe) equipment is an excellent way to quickly extract samples of high integrity, and we employ this method when conditions permit (hard or unstable soils may require the use of rotary drilling methods).

Capabilities typically utilized for environmental drilling include:

  • Direct push (probe)
  • SPT soil sampling
  • Groundwater sampling
  • Well development monitoring
  • Well installation/decommissioning monitoring
  • Explosive gas probe installation
  • VOC field screening
  • Air space monitoring
  • Bioremediation product injection
  • Sample preservation
  • Percolation testing

Barr & Prevost operates one direct push Geoprope unit (typically used for environmental drilling) and two rotary drilling rigs (one truck-mounted and the other ATV-mounted) from its Columbus, OH base. We also maintain access to additional lease/rental equipment.

Team members are trained in various procedures for field testing and monitoring, the use of bioremediation products, and in the proper preservation of samples. Our team also takes great care in making sure that equipment is decontaminated to prevent cross-contamination and potential environmental damage.
